McKenna Art Students Receive State Recognition

The artwork of McKenna Elementary School sixth-grader Megan Kirtyan and fourth-grader Olivia Moscola was on display at the recent New YorArt Recognitionk State School Board annual conference. Each year, schools are invited to select the pieces of two young artists for display at the event. This year, art teacher Ellen Cervone selected Megan’s piece, which was based on the style of optical illusion artist Bridget Riley and Olivia’s piece, based on Georgia O’Keeffe’s distinctive style of painting enlarged flowers. A reception was held on Oct. 19 at the New York City Sheraton.

“The entire Massapequa family is very proud of these two young artists,” said Mrs. Cervone. She said she encourages all young artists to do their very best and to keep “Art in their Heart!”
