Girls Fund of Long Island (GirlsFLI) is a young women’s leadership initiative that connects and empowers young women across a diverse economic, ethnic, religious, racial and geographic landscape to increase participation, advocacy and philanthropy in their communities. The program provides guidance and tools to young women in developing leadership capacity as well as an understanding of the social issues that they face in their respective communities, the root causes, and avenues for collaboration and problem solving to effectively advocate and contribute to positive change in and around their communities. GirlsFLI is unique in that it is girl-designed and driven by participants’ identification and understanding of issues that are relevant to them and to other young women in their communities.
WFLI is accepting applications until November 30, 2015 and is looking for young women in grades 9 -11 who:
• Have demonstrated personal leadership in helping others
• Are passionate about what is happening in and around their community
• Want to connect and interact with other dynamic young women across Long Island
• Live in either Nassau or Suffolk county
Programs will meet for twice a month sessions and will be led by dynamic speakers and community leaders. This is a girl-driven project where GIRLS decide the topics most relevant to them as well as have hands-on volunteer opportunities. Only 50 participants will be chosen.
