Star-Studded GC Film Festival Kicks Off Monday
The 2015 Gold Coast International Film Festival will feature more than 60 films and dozens of filmmakers at screenings and events from Nov. 9 to 15 throughout the North Shore. The fifth anniversary of the festival will be held in venues throughout the Town of North Hempstead, including the Gold Coast Arts Center in Great Neck, Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington, the Bow Tie Cinemas in Great Neck, Port Washington, Manhasset and Roslyn as well as at LIU Post.
The festival kicks off with an intimate
conversation with award-winning writer, director and producer Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) at LIU
Post on Nov. 9 and will include a special screening of Spurlock’s new short film, Crafted.
In addition to Spurlock, attendees scheduled include actor Lou Diamond Phillips; Patricia Riggen, director of the new Warner Brothers film The 33, starring Antonio Banderas, Juliette Binoche and Lou Diamond Phillips; star of Showtime’s Homeland, Navid Negahban; award-winning filmmakers Michael Cuesta (executive producer of Homeland), Rick Goldsmith, Yael Melamede and Andrew Horn; WNBA superstar Chamique Holdsclaw; band members from Twisted Sister, who will be present for the U.S. premiere of a new film about their rise to fame; Emmy-winning journalist Kristin Thorne—plus other filmmakers and special guests, such as Michael Landers, the Long Island ping-pong champion featured in the film Top Spin.
Films will showcase Hollywood actors including Richard Gere, Oliver Platt, Rene Russo, Jason Sudeikis, Rebecca Hall, Christopher Walken, Amber Heard and many more. Award-winning films from the world’s most prestigious festivals will be screened, as will more than 25 short films, along with Q&As from visiting shorts filmmakers.

Short film screenings will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1 p.m., at the Roslyn Library for free and Saturday, Nov. 14, 1 p.m., at Bow Tie Manhasset.
A family film day filled with an afternoon of short films, curated especially for kids, and hands-on movie related art activities will be held at the Gold Coast Arts Center on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Gold Coast Arts Center. During this fun day for kids and caregivers when schools are closed, pizza will be provided by Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza.
Aspiring filmmakers and veteran producers can attend a free event on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2 p.m., where they can meet a team from the New York State Governor’s Office for Motion Picture and Television Development at the Gold Coast Arts Center for a round-table discussion about producing in New York State and learn about tax credits, location scouting, finding stages, crew and more.
The festival is produced by the Gold Coast Arts Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts through education, exhibition, performance and outreach.
