Film Festival Comes To Roslyn

GCFilmFestival_102115.BThe Village of Roslyn will host two films from the 2015 Gold Coast International Film Festival.

This Friday, Nov. 13, both The Chef’s Wife and Tumbledown will be shown at the Bow Tie movie theater in downtown Roslyn.

The Chef’s Wife will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Tumbledown at 8:45 p.m.

The Chef’s Wife is directed by Anne Le Ny, France and will be shown in French with English subtitles. Its runs 91 minutes.

Tumbledown is directed by Sean Mewshaw. It is an American film in English and runs for 103 minutes. Both films are straight-forward narratives.

In all, the festival will feature more than 60 films and dozens of filmmakers at screenings and events through Nov. 15 throughout the North Shore. The fifth anniversary of the festival will be held in venues throughout the Town of North Hempstead, including the Gold Coast Arts Center in Great Neck, Soundview Cinemas in Port Washington, the Bow Tie Cinemas in Great Neck, Port Washington and Manhasset and as well as at LIU Post.

Films will showcase Hollywood actors including Richard Gere, Oliver Platt, Rene Russo, Jason Sudeikis, Rebecca Hall, Christopher Walken, Amber Heard and many more. Award-winning films from the world’s most prestigious festivals will be screened, as will more than 25 short films, along with Q&As from visiting shorts filmmakers.

During the festival, the following films will be shown:

• Autism in Love (Director Matt Fuller, USA, English, 76 min., documentary) Saturday, Nov. 14, 1 p.m., Soundview PW.

• The Birth of Sake (Director Erik Shirai, USA, Japanese with English subtitles, 94 min., documentary) Saturday, Nov. 14, 6:30 p.m., Bow Tie Manhasset.

(Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies (Director Yael Melamede, USA, English, 90 min., documentary) Thursday, Nov. 12, 6 p.m., Soundview PW.

• Frank and Cindy (Director G.J. Echternkamp, USA, English, 101 min., narrative) Saturday, Nov. 14, 8:30 p.m., Soundview PW.

• HelloHello (Director Maria Blom, Sweden, Swedish with English subtitles, 97 min., narrative) Sunday, Nov. 15, 4 p.m., Soundview PW.

• Listen to Me Marlon (Director Stevan Riley, USA, English, 102 min., documentary) Saturday, Nov. 14, 3:30 p.m., Bow Tie Manhasset.

• Mafia and Red Tomatoes (Director Giulio Manfredonia, Italy, Italian with English subtitles, 100 min., narrative) Saturday, Nov. 14, 8 p.m., Soundview PW.

• Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw (Director Rick Goldsmith, USA, English, 57 min., documentary) Saturday, Nov. 14, 3:30 p.m., Soundview PW.

• Modern Ruin: A World’s Fair Pavilion (Director Matthew Silva, USA, English, 78 min., documentary) Thursday, Nov. 12, 2 p.m., Bow Tie Great Neck, includes lunch before film at the Gold Coast Arts Center.

• The Muses of Bashevis Singer (Director Asaf Galay, Shaul Bester, Israel, English and Hebrew with English subtitles, 72 min., documentary) Sunday, Nov. 15, 1:30 p.m., Bow Tie Great Neck.

• Mustang (Director Deniz Gamze Ergüven, France/Turkey, Turkish with English subtitles, 95 min., narrative) Saturday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m., Soundview PW.

• My Friend Victoria (Director Jean-Paul Civeyrac, France, French with English subtitles, 95 min., narrative) Sunday, Nov. 15, 1:30 p.m., Soundview PW.

• Partner with the Enemy (Director Duki Dror, Chen Shelach, Israel, Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles, 60 min. documentary) Thursday, Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m., Bow Tie Great Neck followed by dessert reception at LOLA.

• Son of Saul (Director László Nemes, Hungary, Hungarian, Yiddish, German, Russian and Polish with English subtitles, 107 min., narrative) Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m., Bow Tie Great Neck.

• Top Spin (Director Mina T. Son, Sara Newens, USA, English and Mandarin with English subtitles, 81 min., documentary) Sunday, Nov. 15, 4:30 p.m., Soundview PW.

• The Vanished Elephant (Director Javier Fuentes-León, Peru, Spanish with English subtitles, 109 min., narrative) Saturday, Nov. 14, 8:30 p.m., Bow Tie Manhasset.

• When I Live My Life Over Again (Director Robert Edwards, USA, English, 98 min., narrative) Saturday, Nov. 14, 5 p.m., Soundview PW.

The festival is produced by the Gold Coast Arts Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts through education, exhibition, performance and outreach.
