The Manhasset High School marching band won its seventh consecutive USBands Group 1A New York State Championship on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Woodbridge High School in New Jersey. The band achieved its highest score at a states competition, earning an 81.75 in the exciting performance of their Star Wars show.
Following their performance, Randy Knudsen, director of bands at Manhasset, told the students that he was very proud of their hard work and excited for their progress this season.
The band competed the previous week at Bergenfield High School in New Jersey scoring 77.45 to earn second place among five bands, having been edged out of first place by just 0.3 points (out of a possible maximum 100 points).
The band’s next performance was the homecoming parade and half-time show, followed later that day by an evening competition at East Brunswick High School, NJ. The band will also compete at Old Bridge High School, NJ and at the Eastern Regional National Competition at Delaware State University in Dover later in November.
