Nolan Altman
On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Brotherhood of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck will present Nolan Altman, vice president of JewishGen.org for a lecture on Jewish genealogy. Altman, who also serves on the board of the Long Island Jewish Genealogical Society, is a renown authority on searching Jewish family records and histories. He will discuss JewishGen.org’s Online Worldwide Burial Records (JOWBR) Project, which highlights the value of Jewish burial records, headstone inscriptions and memorial plaques in linking the generations. Through the symbols and information found through these source materials, researchers can build more robust family trees. The lecture begins at 10 a.m., and will be preceded by a bagel breakfast at 9 a.m. The cost for breakfast is $12; the lecture costs $10 for non-Temple Beth-El members. Temple Beth-El is located at 5 Old Mill Rd. For more information, call 516-487-0900.
