Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved $255,549 worth of repairs to the Tully Aquatic Activities Center in New Hyde Park relating to damages incurred during Superstorm Sandy.
The project includes replacing many of the electrical systems that were damaged as a result of the various LIPA power surges that occurred during the storm including the two electric pool sump pumps and eight central air units. Work will also be done to the main building exterior including the skylights, ceiling tiles, and the steel metal roof. Since Superstorm Sandy the Town took emergency measures to make temporary repairs to many of these items in order to restore the facility in the interim.
“Tully Aquatic Activity Center is one of our premiere indoor facilities in the Town and I am thrilled that it will return to its pre-Superstorm Sandy condition,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “I thank FEMA for continuing to work with us as we continue our storm recovery efforts.”
Since Superstorm Sandy, the Town has been approved for 32 projects from FEMA for a total of more than $41.7 million with 1 project still pending approval, and 1 more pending submission.
