Movie At The Library
See Mr. Holmes at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. In 1947, an aging Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement. Meeting With Maragos
The Oyster Bay Civic Association, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce the Oyster Bay Main Street Association host a talk with Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos at 7:30 p.m. at the Italian-American Citizens Club, 49 Summit St., Oyster Bay. Maragos will report on his “Economic Vision To Confront Nassau County’s Demographic Trends.” Potential solutions to restore economic vitality, combat population decline of young adults and create good paying jobs will be presented.

Gallery Talk
On Saturday, Nov. 21, from 3 to 6 p.m., artist Kirk Larsen shares the powerful inspiration behind his current exhibition Light Over Water: Oyster Bay Harbor Scenes, now on view at the Oyster Bay Historical Society. Larsen examines the creative process at work in many of the 56 paintings and drawings on exhibit, as well as recounting the emotional and financial rewards of investing in fine art. Learn some of the basics of how and why to buy art, and discover how ownership of fine art can enrich, enliven, calm, and even heal. A great opportunity for beginners and seasoned collectors alike, this will be an uplifting event for all. The program takes place at the Historical Society’s Angela Koenig Center on 20 Summit St. in Oyster Bay. Entry is free and open to all, but reservations are required. Family Nature Program
At Bailey Arboretum, from 2 to 3 p.m., explore Native American Life. Life in the forest of Bailey Arboretum 1,000 years ago was quite different. Take a walk in the woods to learn just how much. Knitting Without Needles
From 1 to 4 p.m., join fiber artist Jacque Blocklyn for her fall knitting-without-needles class. Put down your knitting needles and roll up your sleeves. No knitting experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided. Take home your own arm-knitted treasure. $25 per knitter. Food Drive
The Community Social Action Committee (C.S.A.C.) has partnered with Youth & Family Counseling Agency and St. Dominic’s Church Parish Outreach to help families, individuals and seniors who need assistance for the upcoming holiday season. This is an inter-religious community effort that works with local agencies, churches and schools to identify families in need. C.S.A.C. needs help to support “Partners in Giving” P.I.G. Nonperishable food items are being accepted at the new location, St. Dominic’s Church, The Silveri Center, 93 Anstice St., Oyster Bay, through Nov. 16, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They do not have refrigeration, so they are not able to take any frozen turkeys. Donations should be mailed to: C.S.A.C. Holiday Sharing Program, P.O. Box 231, Oyster Bay, NY 1177. Donations will be used to purchase food certificates and supplies to keep this outreach program going.
Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays 11 a.m. to noon. If you are in need of their services at other times, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
The Interfaith Community
