Roslyn area residents have plenty to choose from when it comes to local hospitals. Now they have an urgent care center, one that is open seven days a week with extended hours.
Earlier this month, North Shore-LIJ GoHealth Urgent Care held a grand opening event for its latest center at 1033 Northern Blvd. in Roslyn. The center provides on-site X-ray and lab capabilities and features an innovative and modern design with exam rooms that are up to 40 percent larger than traditional urgent care exam rooms. The care center, in all, is for those in need of non-life threatening emergency care. No appointments are needed. Among the local dignitaries in attendance at the Nov. 1 event was Town of North Hempstead Clerk Wayne Wink, Councilwoman Anna Kaplan and Elaine Phillips, the mayor of the Village of Flower Hill.
The care center will provide medical records integration with the North Shore-LIJ Health System. For patients in need of follow-up care or referrals, GoHealth providers are able to schedule appointments with credentialed North Shore-LIJ providers as well as electronically share X-rays and medical history.
“If you receive an X-ray at GoHealth and then need to be referred to a North Shore-LIJ physician for a sports injury or fall, that physician will not need to perform and charge for an additional X-ray because we incorporated the scans into your medical record,” said Robert Korn, MD, medical director of GoHealth Urgent Care. “This not only saves time for the patient but also improves efficiency and saves dollars across the entire healthcare system.”
In addition to urgent care, North Shore-LIJ GoHealth Urgent Care provides services such as on-site X-ray, laboratory services, immunizations and seasonal flu shots. Every North Shore-LIJ GoHealth Urgent Care center is staffed by physicians, physician assistants and radiology technicians and provides care for both adults and children. The facility features four private exam rooms, a triage room and overall, an open, spa-like feel.
“We are offering people access to the health care they need within their communities and in the way that people would like to receive it,” said Gary Weatherford, chief operating officer of the North Shore-LIJ GoHealth Urgent Care joint venture. “People prefer environments that are open, treatment rooms that are larger to accommodate family members, as well as a more complete and comprehensive relationship with their physician.”
North Shore-LIJ officials said that the establishments of such urgent care centers will make a “significant” economic investment into local communities by employing over 25 local medical providers and administrative staff throughout their six locations, including the one in Roslyn. A Levittown location is planned for later this month.
“We believe that patients are more comfortable with providers who know and understand their lifestyle,” added Weatherford. “When patients know that the provider who is treating them or their child lives in the same neighborhood, shops at the same stores and shares their same sense of community, it makes for a better and more personal experience.”
