Animal League Saves 100+ Dogs

On the morning of Nov. 16, Wings of Rescue flew more than 100 dogs facing euthanasia in California to SheltAir Republic Airport in Farmingdale. North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), the world’s largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization, welcomed the small-breed dogs into their care and looks forward to finding them loving homes. The animals were transferred to Port Washington in two mobile adoption vehicles.

“This was the first leg in our Season of Thanks rescues,” said Allison Andersen, communications coordinator for NSALA. “By Thanksgiving we will have rescued more than 350 puppies and dogs from the tristate area, California, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina and brought them to our Port Washington campus.”

The organization will hold a Black Friday adoption special event from 9 a.m. to noon at 25 Davis Ave. All adoption fees will be waived for approved adopters.

“What better way to usher in the holiday season than by saving lives and finding homes for hundreds of animals,” said Andersen.

Headquartered in Port Washington, the North Shore Animal League American has saved more than 1 million lives. The organization believes a rescue isn’t complete until each animal is placed into a loving home. Their programs provide education to reduce animal cruelty and advance standards in animal welfare.
