Library Holiday Food Drive
An Island Harvest receptacle will be located in the library until Tuesday, Dec. 15 to collect donated items. Suggested items should include, but are not limited to, canned vegetables, baby food, baby formula, soups, canned fruit, nutritional beverages such as Boost or Ensure, cereal, pasta, bottled juices, and personal care items such as toothpaste, deodorant. Please do not give expired food items.
Toys For Tots Drive
The Mineola Library is a dropoff location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” campaign, a program to collect toys and distribute to needy children in the community during the holiday season. Through Dec. 19, you may drop off a new and unwrapped toy in a “Toys for Tots” box located in front of the circulation desk.
WeCare Blankets
Please give to “We Care Blankets.” The charity members’ goal is to knit blankets for children undergoing chemotherapy. Colorful blankets are supplied to 23 oncology units on Long Island. You may donate yarn at the box located in the children’s room.

Film Discussion Series
In a career that spanned over 50 years, director Alfred Hitchcock worked with the finest actors and actresses in Hollywood. Some of his greatest work came in films that featured Cary Grant as his leading man. This winter, we will feature all four of the Hitchcock/Grant films, followed by engaging discussion. All films begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday Dec. 10—Suspicion (1941), Monday Jan. 11—Notorious (1946), Monday Feb. 1—To Catch a Thief (1955) and Wednesday Feb. 17—North by Northwest (1959).
Bouncing Ball Sing-A-Long
Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. The Museum of Interesting Things will present a special Circus/Windup toy themed sing-a-long party. Sing your heart out as you view those bouncing balls films on antique 16mm film. In addition, the Museum will have a history of film and Photography exhibition and windup circus shows for you to see and learn about.

Lecture: Social Security
Monday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. Learn: the pros and cons of taking early retirement at 62 or delaying benefits until age 65 or 70; how “claim and suspend” has the potential to significantly increase lifetime benefits for many people; rules and regulations for spouses; and, a Social Security calculator demonstration. A Q&A will follow the power point presentation.
Keep Calm And Color On
Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Coloring: It’s not just for kids. Coloring reduces stress, stimulates creativity, and encourages mindful focusing. Spend some time at the library scribbling away your pre-holiday stresses in a relaxing setting with good company. A selection of coloring pages, crayons and colored pencils (or bring your own) will be provided. This no-fee program is open to adults only please.
A Charlie Brown Christmas Show
Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. Join Plaza Theatrical Productions for this classic holiday favorite in the Mineola Library’s Ann C. Hurley Community Room downstairs.

Monday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. Ages 4-months to 1-year with caregiver may sign up to attend. Join for bounces, tickles, songs and more during this fun program. Find out how these simple activities enhance early literacy skills. Limit 12 families.
Pokémon Gaming Club
Tuesday, Dec. 1, Tuesday, Jan. 5, and Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. Ages 7 and up-open registration. Meet other Pokémon fans, trade cards, battle Pokémon with them on your Nintendo DS or on the library’s Nintendo Wii. Free raffle prizes will be given away.
Gingerbread Man In A Box
Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m. Grade one and up may sign up to attend. Decorate an edible gingerbread man and a decorative box to put him in. *This program may have food allergens.
Milk And Cookies For Santa
(Pick one of two sessions) Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. or Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7:15 p.m. Ages 2-K (with caregiver) may sign up for both sessions. Listen to Christmas stories and make a special placemat for Santa’s Christmas Eve treat.
How To Do Common Core Homework
Thursday, Dec. 10 from 4 to 5 p.m. For parents and students in Gr. K-12—open registration. Parents and students will examine the standards and gain an in-depth understanding of how skills build from Kindergarten to grade 12. Transitional C2 Education strategies will be discussed.
