The 18th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Blumenfeld Park at the Landmark on Main Street was held on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 4:30 p.m. The weather was perfectly chilly and dry for the event.
A large crowd turned out from the community to enjoy the choral music, live nativity scene and pageant. There were complimentary hot drinks and refreshments. Ornaments were available for decorating and placing on the tree.
The pageant began at 4:30 p.m., with a live nativity and a narration of the Christmas story. Following the lighting of the tree, there was a performance by dancers from Danceworks. The pageant concluded around 5:30 p.m. with the arrival of Santa, who had a gift for each girl and boy. This joyous occasion has been organized for the past 18 years by The Christmas Tree Lighting Committee made up of Port Washington residents and business owners. The committee is self-sustaining and fully responsible for organizing and financing the festivities. A special “thank you” goes out to the businesses and individuals who donated their services and their time for the successful raffle fundraiser in November.
