Happy Holidays From Mayor Cavallaro

By Village of Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro

I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every Westbury resident a very joyous and holy holiday season, and a happy and healthy 2016.

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah (just passed), Kwanzaa, or are of any other faith or tradition, the holidays are a time to reflect on the many blessings that we enjoy, so let us all take some time to be thankful for our many blessings.

As we celebrate our holy days, let us also remember the service men and women who remain in harm’s way and away from their families this holiday season. Let us pray that they may soon be reunited with their families and loved ones and that 2016 will be a year of peace. Let us also pray for the poor and displaced, here and abroad, that in 2016 they may find comfort.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our village employees and staff for their continued dedication, hard work and commitment to the village and its residents. Our staff (whether it is the village office staff, or our DPW, recreation, building department personnel) are our biggest resource, and they make sure that all of the services and obligations of the village are performed with the utmost professionalism and proficiency that our residents expect and deserve.

2016 is likely to bring new and significant challenges to municipal government, including continuing and increasing state mandated costs and pressure resulting from limited resources. But, I and the village board are committed to being creative and forward-thinking to make sure that we continue to deliver top-notch services at the most affordable cost possible. Despite the many challenges that we face, Westbury possesses a great sense of diversity and cooperation that distinguishes it from many communities. It is a privilege for me to serve as your Mayor. I look forward to working with all of our residents to successfully meet a new set of challenges and goals in 2016. I ask each resident to join me and my colleagues on the village board to do all that we can in the coming year to ensure that Westbury continues to be the strong, special and vibrant place that we love.
