The Manhasset girls Cross Country team competed very well at the County Championship meet on Oct. 31, and the New York State Qualifier meet the week after. Both were held at Bethpage State Park. The girls took the County Class 2 title by defeating Great Neck North and South Side. Kayleigh Caggiano won the 5,000 meter race in 19:22. Catherine Matteo, Angela Tsoumpas, Emily Tsoumpas and Olivia Plansker rounded out the top five with All-County honors. Eliana Rozinov, Lizzy Harris and Samantha Derasse competed very well to earn All-Conference honors.
At the New York State Qualifier meet, Matteo and Caggiano would run fast enough to qualify for the State Championship meet held in Monroe-Woodbury. They both had great races as Caggiano finished in 25th place and Matteo finished in 57th out of 120 runners in Class B. Caggiano placed high enough to be selected to represent Nassau County at the New York State Federation Championships held at Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls. She finished 71st out of 255 runners on a very challenging course.
The girls start the Winter Track season in hopes of running fast times and qualifying for the State Championship meet that will be held at Cornell later this winter.
