At approximately 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, both the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company (GNVFC) and the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department (M-LFD) were dispatched to East Shore Road, in the vicinity of the Kensington Pool, to tend to an overturned truck. Upon the arrival of units from both departments, a U.S. Postal Service box truck was found on its side. The driver of the truck was able to extricate himself and was evaluated for assessment of injuries by EMS crews at the scene. M-LFD and GNVFC crews worked side by side to contain a diesel fuel leak from the truck’s ruptured saddle tank until the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office Hazardous Materials Division arrived. As a result of the crash, East Shore Road remained closed for several hours.
