Emanuel Kline, 94, a resident of Great Neck for almost 60 years, died on Dec. 12, 2015 at North Shore University Hospital.
Manny, as he was known to all, was born in 1921 and raised in Brooklyn. After graduating from Townsend Harris High School, Manny attended Cooper Union. Following his service from 1942–45 with the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Pacific-Aleutian theater, Manny graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University with a bachelor’s degree in textile engineering and thereafter worked for more than 40 years in the garment industry in New York City.
Manny moved to Great Neck in 1957 with his wife and their first child. Over time, Manny became active in numerous community organizations, including serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Great Neck Library for more than 10 years; as a fundraiser for the United Community Fund for many years; as an officer of the PTA while his children attended the Great Neck schools; and, following his retirement, with the school district’s REAP program. Manny was also involved for decades with local politics, including serving as a committee person with the Democratic Party.
Manny is survived by his wife of 61 years, Roslyn Kline, and by three sons—Brett, a journalist in Paris, Ivan, a lawyer in New York City, and Eric, a Drug Enforcement Administration intelligence analyst—and five grandsons. A fourth son, Mark, died in 2010.
