The seniors at the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center celebrated the holidays in many ways. First, on Tuesday, Dec. 8, they were entertained by the beautiful music of the Sounds of Music Orchestra, led by Dom Critelli. They played many seasonal favorites as well as popular big band hits. Several soloists sang: local crooner Warren Schein; Stacy Kostoulas from Daniel Gale Reality; Mickey Drake, member of Port Washington Senior Citizens Center; and Phil DeFelice, member of Sounds of Music Orchestra. Aside from the festive music and dancing, the seniors were treated by members of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Reality of Port Washington to some delicious treats and desserts.
On Wednesday, Dec. 9, members of Michele Beier’s collage class visited wit & whim on Carlton Avenue to view the window display, “Hands Across the Waters,” that they contributed to. Laurie Scheinman and her staff gave the members lunch and the seniors were so excited to see their work displayed at the store.
Some of the exceptional meals offered during the season were served on Thursday, Dec. 10 (Hanukkah feast of brisket with gravy, latkes, noodle pudding and string beans) and Tuesday, Dec. 22 (Christmas feast of Cornish game hen, wild rice, string beans and biscuits).
The holiday season wrapped up with a fabulous lunch at Louie’s Restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 29. A delicious meal was served, the seniors played bingo and received door prizes.
