In recognition of his outstanding academic accomplishments, Massapequa High School senior David Marques was named a National Hispanic Scholar by the College Board. He is one of 5,000 students of Hispanic/Latino heritage to be selected.

To qualify, students must achieve a high score on the PSAT/NMSQT, maintain a 3.5 or better GPA, be at least one quarter Hispanic/Latino descent and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

“David is an incredibly well-rounded individual who not only excels academically, socially and musically, but is constantly striving to improve and grow,” said Principal Dr. Barbara Williams.

Marques has consistently excelled at the top of his class. He was named a semi-finalist in the College Board’s National Merit Scholarship Program and his passion for writing extends to penning pieces for his high school newspaper The Chief.

Marques enjoys foreign languages and will attend the University of Chicago in the fall to study East Asian Languages and Civilizations. He studied Japanese and takes AP French and hopes to combine his interests into a career in either political journalism or international affairs.
