Pay First-Half Of General Taxes By Feb. 10

household-income-ju-topThe last day to pay the Town of North Hempstead first-half general tax bill without a penalty is Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Mailed payments must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before Feb. 10 to avoid a penalty. By law, office postage meters are not official postmarks. Charles Berman, receiver of taxes, recommends that taxpayers mailing payments on the last day have their payments hand-stamped at the post office to ensure a timely postmark.

Taxpayers can pay in person at the Receiver of Taxes’ office at the Town Hall Annex, 200 Plandome Rd., Manhasset, NY 11030. Regular office hours are 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., but on Wednesday, Feb. 10, Berman’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Taxpayers can also pay by check or money order at the following local collection sites:

Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Clinton G. Martin Park, Marcus Ave. and New Hyde Park Rd. in New Hyde Park.

Thursday, Feb. 4, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Great Neck Social Center, 80 Grace Ave. in Great Neck.

Thursday, Feb. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Michael J. Tully Park, Evergreen Ave. in New Hyde Park.

When paying in person, bring your entire bill. For further information, visit www.northhempsteadny.gov or call 516-869-7800.

To sign up for an email payment reminder, go to the town website
and click on the envelope in the upper left-hand corner, then follow directions for tax payment alerts. A reminder will be emailed approximately 10 days before the last day to pay the tax without a penalty.

Property owners may also register online for no cost access to their general and school property tax information. Log onto the town website, click the Government tab, then Receiver of Taxes and then click the Online Tax Information & Payments link to view, print or check the payment status of your property tax bill. For a convenience fee, property owners can pay their tax bills using American Express, Visa, MasterCard or Discover or by Automatic Electronic Check. Conventional payments via the U.S. mail or in-person will not incur any convenience charge.
