Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m., photographer and Port Washington resident Diana Berrent opens her new exhibit, Under the Banyan Trees: Glimpses of Myanmar, at the Port Washington Public Library. The exhibit is on display this month in the library’s Vogel Gallery. There will be a reception, from 2 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6. Pieces from the exhibit are available for purchase through Diana Berrent Photography. “Over the holidays I traveled to Myanmar and Cambodia with my husband and two children, ages 7 and 9,” said Berrent. “It’s a region of the world I first visited at the age of 16 on a community service trip that took us from living in a hill tribe village on the Thai-Myanmar (then Burmese) border to working at a refugee camp south of Bangkok. It is a region to which I have continued to return (in 1996 to Vietnam, in 2003 to Cambodia and Vietnam, in 2007 to Laos and Thailand and last time to Thailand with both children in 2013).”
