The Town of Oyster Bay’s Department of Community and Youth Services offers cultural enrichment, workshops, the ever-popular Music Under The Stars series, art exhibits and more. Now, the department is gearing up for spring with an array of programs aimed at expanding creative and intellectual horizons.
Councilman Joseph Pinto recently announced registration for all applications in the Workshop Enrichment Program for children and adults is open from now until Feb. 26.
“The Workshop Enrichment Program offers excellent and informative programs that offer residents the opportunity to develop useful new talents and hobbies,” said Pinto. “Workshops in categories such as the arts, education, entertainment, fitness, music and more will be available for residents of all ages.”
Workshops for adults include water coloring, oil and acrylic painting, drawing fundamentals, Zumba fitness, yoga and more. The programs are designed to engage the community and provide social outlets for adults of all ages. Highlights for children’s workshops include fun activities like Little Kids Jamboree (ages 6 months through 24 months), Dancetime (ages 2-5), Jump Bunch Sports Activities (ages 3-5 years), Drama Kids (grades K-3), drum lessons (grades K-3), guitar lessons (grades 3-5), Mad Science (grades 1-6) and Brixology Lego Building (grades 2-5).
“These workshops allow residents to develop new skills, while simultaneously having fun,” Pinto said. “The program offers residents a workshop program that is the best of both worlds; an enjoyable experience for beginners looking to take up a new hobby and a fun time for more experienced artists looking to sharpen old skills.”
Pinto reminded residents to take notice of the locations of every workshop program listed in the Workshop Enrichment Program brochure, available at www.oysterbaytown.com. He said there will be a wide array of course for adults and children held at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center, William P. Bennet Hicksville Community Center and the North Massapequa Community Center throughout the season.
Aside from program running under the auspices of the town, both Mad Science and Brixology are run by Mad Science of Long Island. When registering for either of these workshops, do not use the town’s workshop registration form.
