The Port Washington Public Library (PWPL) has renamed the art gallery for Karen and Ed Adler in recognition of their continued and generous financial support of the library and their special interest in the arts.
Ed Adler is the mayor of Sands Point and one of the founding board members of the Port Washington Library Foundation. He and his wife, Karen, have been generous contributors to the foundation’s endowment and to the new Children’s Library campaign. They have been lifelong devotees of the arts as well.
“Karen and I have always shared an interest in the arts,” said Ed. “Touring galleries and museums has been a regular part of our married life for more than four decades. When we were raising our children in Port, the library’s exhibitions and other programs in the arts brought us much pleasure for many years when getting into the city together was rarely a possibility.
“In recent years we were able to resume museum and gallery visits in Manhattan and build our own
collection, but we continue to enjoy the great creativity and talent exhibited at the library. In fact, a painting exhibited in the library’s gallery a few years ago graces the wall of my office in Manhattan. We can’t think of a more appropriate purpose for the income from our endowment gift.”
PWPL Director Nancy Curtin said, “A gallery named for this generous and involved couple adds distinction to our fine arts space. Their support fosters our mission to exhibit a wide array of artistic expression for the Port community.”
