Oyster Bay Town Councilman Chris J. Coschignano advises individuals interested in working as a lifeguard for the 2016 summer season that registration is currently underway.
“The Town of Oyster Bay is now hiring lifeguards at our pools and at North Shore beaches for the upcoming season, which extends from Memorial Day through Labor Day,” said Coschignano. “As there is of course a lot of work and responsibility that comes with being a lifeguard, the position is meant for those who are experienced swimmers and up for the challenge of protecting residential swimmers and beach attendees.”
Coschignano noted that anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard must pass a 30-hour American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course administered by the Department of Parks that will certify the applicants in CPR, first aid and other lifeguard techniques.
Applicants interested in becoming a lifeguard are encouraged to register as soon as possible, as space is limited. Those interested may call the Department of Parks at 516-797-4167 for more information.
“Having a summer job as a lifeguard is a worthwhile opportunity that also helps the community,” Coschignano said. “The job provides a very beneficial service and helps build confidence, self-esteem, and friendships for all involved.”
