North Hempstead Councilmember Viviana Russell recently presented the championship award at the conclusion of the first annual Nassau Kings Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. The two-day basketball tournament, sponsored by the Nassau Kings Wheelchair basketball team, was hosted at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center. Eight teams from Connecticut to Virginia participated in this elimination tournament. The Nassau Kings played valiantly, contending to be the overall tournament champions, but were defeated in overtime by the Delaware Destroyers. The Nassau Kings wheelchair basketball team was organized in 1987 and is a member of the Eastern Wheelchair Basketball Conference and the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.
