This March 16, the Village of East Hills will hold a competitive election in its board of trustee race. Two incumbents, Deputy Mayor Manny Zuckerman and Trustee Clara Pomerantz, are up for re-election. This year, they will face a challenge from Neil Foster and Jana Goldenberg.

Foster announced the intention of Goldenberg and himself to run in a letter to the editor in last week’s issue. In that letter, Foster said the new team is running because elections “should be based on electing people who can best serve their community. People with visions, goals and ideas.”

In East Hills, Foster has served on the boards of the Albertson Soccer Club and Roslyn Booster Basketball. He is also co-founder of Shooting Stars, a basketball program at the Sid Jacobson JCC for children with special needs.

Goldenberg has been a member of the village’s Architectural Review Board, while co-chairing the Village Appreciation Bunch, serving on the Tree Review Committee and as president of the Country Estates Civic Association.

Zuckerman was first elected to the board of trustees in 2000. Ten years later, he was selected by Mayor Michael R. Koblenz to be deputy mayor. He is supervising trustee over Security and Emergency Management Preparedness Measures.

Pomerantz was first elected to the board in 2010. She currently serves as supervising trustee over Environmental Issues, the Park Rules Committee, Village Events, the Kids In The Park program and the Playgrounds Committee.

Next week, The Roslyn News will feature candidate profiles of all four candidates in the issue prior to the March 16 election.
