Syosset boys basketball, for the first time since promoted to AA1, qualified for the Nassau County playoffs. The Braves posted an overall 11-8 record with key out of conference wins against Roslyn, Port Washington and Island Trees. In league play, Syosset went 7-5 with three victories against Nassau final four teams, Massapequa and Freeport. The team was captained and led by juniors Griffin Halpern, Richie Rambarran and senior James Goldrick. Rounding out the starting line-up was senior Robert Santiago and junior James Dionisio. With three returning starters the team is ready for 2016-17 season.
Meanwhile, the Lady Braves finished their 2016 season by reaching the final four AA1 Nassau County Playoffs. Following a 9-3 conference record, the team beat East Meadow and Macarthur in their playoff run. In a tough come from behind fourth quarter victory against Macarthur, the team was led by freshman Rachel Mahler with 19 points. The team was led all year by senior captain Sarah Soloman, who fought through injury to contribute in the playoffs. Rounding out the team was solid play from senior captain Sarah Garner, juniors Molly Breslow and Camryn Monfort, sophomore Sabrina Lieberman and eighth-grader Kendall Halpern. The season ended with a great effort against the no. 1 seed Baldwin Bruins. With a young and talented squad Syosset has high expectations for next season.
