Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano joined with Nassau County Junior Firefighter’s Association Chairman Jerry Presta and outgoing president, Kelly Hastings of Massapequa, at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola to commend and honor Hastings for her service to the Junior Firefighters.
“Nassau County firefighters are the best in the nation and that is due to the hard work and dedication they put into protecting Nassau County’s residents, homes and property,” said Mangano. “I thank Kelly for her dedication to serving our county and residents in this special and important way, and for helping to grow the ranks of volunteer firefighters in Nassau County.”
The Nassau County Junior Firefighter’s Association was created to bring together all of the Junior Fire Departments throughout Nassau. There are currently 42 Junior and Explorer firefighter groups in Nassau County, 38 of which are part of the association. The organization promotes camaraderie and community service, and trains with other departments so everyone may gain the ultimate training experience. With the hard work of their advisors and juniors, they have created an organization that will stand strong for years to come.
Mangano has always made the training and safety of firefighters and emergency responders one of his administration’s top priorities. Every year the Juniors are brought to the Nassau County Fire Safety Academy to train the same apparatuses and to go through the evolutions that all firefighter’s go through.
