A public hearing regarding the increase and improvement of facilities of the Port Washington Public Parking District will be held on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 220 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset.

Proposed changes are: daily parking vouchers will increase from $1 to $2 and monthly vouchers will go from $20 to $30. The cost for registering a car will be $25 for the first car, $40 for the second car and $150 for the third car registered to the same home. The cost of $240 for a yearly sticker will not change. Street meters will increase to 25 cents for a half hour instead of an hour.

“Raising fees is never a popular decision, but parking fees have not increased in over 20 years,” said Councilwoman De Giorgio. “The modest increase in some fees this year will enable the district to deliver better service and invest in infrastructure improvements. This year the parking district will use technology to allow residents to obtain permits and vouchers online, saving them a trip to the Parking District Office. Over the next five years, many of our parking lots will undergo a complete renovation. I will continue to work to be sure that we keep expenses down and that we receive our fair share of ticket revenue from the Town.”

In other chamber business, new member The Schmear and owner Bill Mullholland, was welcomed. The Schmear is a new bagel bakery and market that will open at 83 Main St.

The SOUPer Bowl and Polar Plunge events were reviewed and participants were congratulated for their success.

The next Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 12, at 8 a.m. at f.i.s.h. on Main, located at 286 Main St.
