The Village of East Hills wasn’t the only village in the Roslyn area to hold elections on March 15. In an uncontested election for the Village of Roslyn won re-elected for another two-year term each. Bernstein received 37 votes and Westergard won with 35 votes. Bernstein also serves as deputy mayor. First elected in 1995, he is now entering his third decade on the board. Meanwhile, Westergard, who was first elected in 2000, is well into his second decade of service. With residential construction going as planned in Roslyn, village residents saw no need to replace these two stalwarts.
Next door in the Village of Roslyn Harbor, Mayor Louis Badolato was re-elected with 34 votes. His fellow trustee, Jeremy S. Rosof received 33 votes and the board’s newest member, Jasun Fiorentino scored 36 votes.
In other Village of Roslyn news, the board approved a number of resolutions at the meeting including approved payments for the sanitary sewer and roadwork funds.
Specifically, the board approved the payment of $214,215.75 from the sanitary sewer fund to National Water Main Cleaning Company for services which included cleaning, televising, grouting and lining. The board also approved a payment of $22,616.28 from the roadwork fund to Newport Professional Engineering Services. This was for services rendered from the months of February 2015 to February 2016.
The meeting included the passage of two resolutions. One approved the 2011 $2,450,000 refunding bond interest payment of $13,937.50 which is due April 1.
Another resolution was passed approving the Legal Notice publication dates of April 6, 13 and the 20 for the village tax lien sale which will be held on April 21.
The board gave the approval for Mayor John Durkin to accept funds from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation in an amount not to exceed $500,000. The village will enter into an execute an agreement with the state for financial assistance to help with the restoration of the Williams-Robeson Grist Mill. The Roslyn Landmark Society was the recipient of the state granted money this past December.
