The Town of North Hempstead has once again been recognized as a “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation, the sixth year that the Town has received this designation. The “Tree City USA” title is given to towns and cities that have a viable tree management plan and program. In order to be eligible to be recognized as a “Tree City USA” community, certain requirements must be met such as: having a Tree Board or Department, having a Tree Care Ordinance, having a Community Forestry Program and an observance of Arbor Day.
“It is an honor to receive this designation that once again recognizes the Town’s commitment to the environment by ensuring the protection and planting of trees,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “The Town has a robust tree planting program and in many cases we replace the trees that have been removed depending on the circumstances. The professional arborists under contract with the Town help ensure that our trees remain a priority.”
“Tree City USA,” by the Arbor Day Foundation, is the nation’s leading community forestry program, providing a foundation for effective and well-organized community tree care.
