The Schreiber Class of 1976 is having its 40th reunion on the weekend of May 14-15. They have many events planned. On Saturday at 10 a.m., there will be a tour of the High Line in NYC. At 2 p.m., there will be a tour of the Whitney Museum led by classmate and docent Floyd Sklaver. At 9 p.m., there will be a dinner cruise around Manhattan. On Sunday, there will be a party at Hurley’s rooftop bar, 232 West 48 St., from 1 to 4 p.m. They are looking for alumni and teachers who may not have heard about the event. The class of 1976 was one of the largest—over 550 students. Many of the class still lives in Port.
“The faculty at Schreiber was world-class,” said alum Catherine Hausman, remembering her time at Schreiber. “The English department introduced me to Shakespeare, Arthur Miller and Eugene O’Neill. I became a writer and editor and my friends became doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs. I was in a sorority, went to every football game and had a job hostessing at Louie’s Shore Restaurant.”
