DWI Suspect in Custody for Fatal LIE Crash

A driver was arrested for drunken driving after a crash that left a man dead on the Long Island Expressway early Thursday morning, Nassau County police said.

Bonifacio Enriquez, 34, of Queens, was driving a Ford SUV when he struck a man who had pulled his Toyota Camry over to the median near exit 41 on the eastbound side of Route 495 in Jericho shortly after 2 a.m., police said.

The victim, who had been driving in the HOV lane, had pulled over and stepped outside of his car to tie up his bumper after he struck the median, police said. After the suspect’s car hit him, the victim was also struck by a Nissan Altima, police added.

The victim was pronounced at the scene. His identity was not immediately available. The driver of the Altima was not charged.

Enriquez was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter. He was taken to a local hospital and will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
