Members of South High School’s chamber music program have been selected to perform at the 2016 Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Musicians Program at Alice Tully Hall on Thursday, April 14, at 11 a.m. The concert is free and the public is welcome.
The two ensembles are among 11 selected from the tristate area out of 41 ensemble entries. The Young Musicians Program is a chamber music competition for high school musicians offered by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. High school student chamber ensembles are invited to submit applications and audio recordings through their school’s music departments. Selected ensembles receive two professional coaching sessions by members of the Chamber Music Society, Chamber Music Society Two or by guests.
Joshua S. Lee, cello; Soyoung Park, piano; and Christine Suh, violin, will perform Antonin Dvorak’s Piano Trio No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 90 (Dumky Trio) Lento maestoso (Finale).
Zhengkuan (Kenny) Huang, violin II; Joshua S. Lee, cello; Christine Suh, violin I; and Helena Woroniecka, viola, will perform Edvard Grieg’s String Quartet, Op. 27 Un poco Andante.
South High’s chamber program is coordinated by Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head, and Dr. Pamela Levy.
“We recognize the important contributions of all of our music teachers in laying the musical foundation and growth throughout the elementary and middle school years,” said Schwartz. “Our students’ success is a direct result of the collective efforts on behalf of our music students.”
South High ensembles have been selected to perform every year, except two, since The Young Musicians Program began in 1998.
