Driver Fatally Pinned by Truck on LIE in North Hills

A 54-year-old Roosevelt man died when he was pinned under his tractor trailer on the Long Island Expressway in North Hills on Tuesday evening.

Nassau County police said a Highway Patrol officer found Frederick E. Johnson unresponsive and pinned under the tractor trailer, which was parked with its hazard lights on in the westbound shoulder between exits 33 and 34 at 8:22 p.m.

He was pronounced dead.

The Motor Carrier Unit officers preformed a brake and safety check at the scene and determined that the  parked truck suddenly moved forward, pinning the driver.

Third Squad detectives are continuing the investigation but do not suspect foul play.
