Joanna Dolores Greco, 88, of Bourne, MA, formerly of Port Washington, passed away after a brief illness on April 11, 2016, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Eva (Porcello) Greco.
Joanna was born in Port Washington on Sept. 7, 1927, and grew up there as well. Graduating from Port Washington schools in 1945, she started working for American Airlines. She moved on to a civilian office assistant for the U.S. Navy, and later at King’s Point. Joanna then began her long career at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, where she served as the director’s executive assistant in the Manhattan office for over 20 years, from which she retired in 1993. Afterwards, she began yet another career as a librarian at the Port Washington Public Library, retiring from that position in 2012.
She was an avid traveler and reader. Always thinking of her nieces and nephews, Joanna was notorious for her ability to find and frequently send greeting cards for
any occasion. She will be missed.
Joanna is survived by her beloved sister, Carmela Cipriano and her husband, Frank, currently of Bourne; nieces Laura Cipriano of Taipei, Taiwan; Joann Gifford and husband, Ron, of Denver, CO; Linda Burkly and husband, John, of Bourne; Patricia Cisewski and husband, Thomas, of the Isle of Palm, SC. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, namely Daniel, Thomas and Megan Burkly; Tony and Brian Gifford; and Sarah, Katie and Emily Cisewski; as well as great-great-nieces and nephews—Matthew, John Michael, Julia and James Burkly.
A period of visitation with the family was held on Saturday, April 16, at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., in Bourne.
