The Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) is investigating a bomb threat made to Carle Place middle/high school, which occurred late the evening of Wednesday, April 13.
Superintendent Dave Flatley said the district was being very careful about what information was being released in this ongoing investigation. The threat was received on late Wednesday evening, at which point the Third Precinct was immediately contacted. NCPD officers and a detective, as well as Flatley, middle/high school principal Tom DePaola, and the school’s custodial crew, did a search of the building.
“We found nothing,” Flatley said. “So we made a determination that we were going to open the building and have classes as usual on Thursday.”
Parents in the district received a robocall on Thursday, April 14, at 6:15 a.m., letting them know what had happened.
“We wanted families to know it had occurred,” Flatley said. “We thought it was good to be transparent, but wanted them to know in my estimation it was safe to be open.”
Flatley said there was a slightly increased level of security at the middle school/high school on Thursday and there was no significant increase in absenteeism.
The superintendent said the district is cooperating completely with the NCPD as they conduct their ongoing investigation. He added that he has been very happy with the police department’s response to the threat.
“I have been extraordinarily happy with their level of concern. They’re working very hard to figure out where this came from,” Flatley said.
