Fatal Accident In Old Westbury

The Homicide Squad is investigating a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Saturday, April 16, at 7:16 p.m. in Old Westbury.

According to detectives, a 24 year-old male was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima eastbound on the South Service Road of Route 495 approaching Post Road when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb on Store Hill Road. The vehicle continued traveling approximately 40 feet and collided into a tree. The driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The passenger German Enrique Molina of Mineola was pronounced deceased by emergency room staff of Nassau University Medical Center at 7:59 p.m.

There is no criminality at this time. The investigation is ongoing. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks.

Criminal Possession Arrest

The Third Squad reports an arrest for criminal possession of marihuana on Tuesday, April 19, at 6:35 p.m. in Roslyn Heights.

According to detectives, a witness observed a suspicious backpack on the Long Island Expressway N. Service Road and notified police. The N. Service was closed for approximately two hours and Arson Bomb Squad responded. The package was confirmed to not be a public safety device. Once deemed safe it was discovered the backpack contained one pound of marihuana and one ounce of hashish. An investigation identified Jason Liarikos as the owner of the backpack and person who left it on the side of the road. He was placed under arrest at his home without incident.

Liarikos is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance fourth degree and criminal possession of marihuana second degree. He was arraigned on Wednesday, April 20 at First District Court in Hempstead.
