Weber Students Participate In National Day Of Silence

The Weber Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) sponsored its first annual Day of Silence on Friday, April 15. During this special day, students pledged to remain silent for the entire school day honoring those members of the LGBT community who feel as if they cannot speak out for fear of being bullied or called names. What started as a small observance of this national event quickly blossomed into over 135 students participating. The event proved to be quite rewarding for those who took part in this challenging endeavor. When asked what it meant to be a part of this, one student replied, “Today was a very important day for the LGBT people because many of them don’t have a voice. Today showed me how hard it is to be silent.” Another student said, “I would participate next year because it was a reminder to myself and everyone around me that you should support others when it is the right thing to do and you should help others when no one else will.” Overall, the day was a wonderful success.Silence050416B Silence050416A
