Marian Trefzger Girardin

Obituary Featured ImageMarian Trefzger Girardin died on April 28, 2016, at her home in Port Washington after an illness with pancreatic cancer. She was born on Sept. 20, 1930, to Emil Trefzger and Marian Rhoades. Widow of George Robert Girardin. Also survived by her sons, Scott and Marc Johnston; her brother, Charles Trefzger; and her grandson, Kenneth Johnston.

Marian was born in San Francisco, CA. She graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1947 and the University of Connecticut for Women in 1951. She later received a Master of Science degree in Psychiatric Social Work from Columbia University in 1968. Marian lived in Port Washington from 1960 to the end of her life. She worked for Nassau County during 1966 to 1985 as a psychiatric social worker. She was also a volunteer ambulance driver and emergency medical technician for the Port Washington Fire Medic Company #1 for 25 active years during 1985 to 2010. Marian also worked for the Port Washington Public Library and North Shore Yacht Club.

Marian completed three New York city marathons and was a triathlon champion. She loved competing in marathons and triathlon events, crossword puzzles, hiking, skiing, kayaking, community service and travel. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.

Memorial services will be held on May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 48 Shelter Rock Rd., Manhasset. Send donations in lieu of flowers to Port Washington Fire Medic Company #1, 65 Harbor Rd., Port Washington, NY 11050.
