Last November, one of Amedeo Modigliani’s paintings sold for $170 million. Its destiny was to be shipped to Hong Kong to hang in the new owner’s museum. But don’t despair. It is not lost forever.
You can still see an almost exact rendering of Modigliani’s painting by prize-winning artist Ruth Lawrence here on Long Island. However, that girl in the painting is now wearing a bikini, and will hang in the Levittown Public Library for the month of September 2016. It will also cost you a lot less than $170 million to own it.
This painting, plus others by Lawrence, are included in her latest collection of paintings, which she calls her “Fabulous Fakes.” Other works on display include Lawrence’s own rendering of Renoir’s “Two Girls,” Matisse’s “Still Life,” Picasso’s “Little Gourmet,” Rafael’s “Madonna and Child,” Degas’ “Ballet Dancers” and Klimt’s “Woman in Gold.” Also to be seen, a colored picture from her own coloring book, “Color the Fabulous Fakes.”
A price list will be available upon request, at the main desk of the library in September. If you wish to learn more, write to Ruth Lawrence at PO Box 185, Plainview, NY 11803. Include your name and phone number.
