At its May 9 meeting at the Garden City Hotel, members of the Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club received enlightening information about property taxes from Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Donald X. Clavin, Jr.
Clavin offered an overview of the many improvements the town is striving to provide the finest services at the lowest possible cost. He spoke of innovations that have made paying taxes more convenient such as the extension of hours of operation at the main office at 222 Franklin St. in Hempstead from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. He told of satellite offices which bring government to local neighborhoods and of the option to pay taxes by credit card, check or in person at drive-through payment windows at the main office.
Clavin stressed that while Hempstead town does not set property tax assessments, it can answer property tax questions and provide useful guides to tax exemption programs and assessment challenges, all helping tax payers to save money.
Doctor To Report On Winthrop Urgent Care Center
The Mineola-Garden City Rotary Club will welcome Dr. Jamie Yedowitz-Freeman, an attending physician in both Winthrop Internal Medicine Associates and Winthrop Urgent Care as a guest speaker on May 23.
Winthrop-University Hospital’s Urgent Care Center opened its doors in June of 2014. Located at the 222 Station Plaza Building, Suite 110 (facing the Mineola LIRR train station), the center provides free valet parking adjacent to its facility. Hours are from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In the first four months after its opening, the new center reached more than 2,000 walk-in visits. Two years later, the center sees approximately 140 patients per week totaling up to more than 7,200 per year.
“Urgent Care has marked a major step forward in walk-in healthcare and another way for the hospital to address the growing healthcare needs of surrounding communities,” according to an article in a recent issue of Winthrop’s official publication, Cornerstone. The club looks forward to hearing Yedowitz-Freeman’s updated statistics along with the facility’s connection with Winthrop-University Hospital.
