Obituary: Barbara Catherine McEvoy

Barbara Catherine McEvoy passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 10, 2016, in her home after a short but brave five-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her three daughters and her sister. At the time of her passing, Barbara was 72 years old.

Barbara McEvoy was born in Liverpool, England, on Nov. 13, 1943. She was the fourth child, and the second daughter, of John and Catherine Murphy Molyneux. Barbara moved to America when she was 26 years old and lived in Brooklyn. She married John A. McEvoy of Bayside on April 19, 1975. Together they raised a family in Port Washington for 24 years and later moved to Tavares, FL, in 2003.OBITMcEvoy051816A

Barbara was a registered nurse for close to 40 years and was an active member in each community in which she lived. In Port Washington, she served as a volunteer EMT with Fire Medic Company No. 1 for 13 years. She was also an active member of St. Peter of Alcantara Parish, and in association with the attached school, acted as her three daughters’ Girl Scout leader. In Tavares, FL, Barbara was a member and president of the Auxiliary at Florida Hospital Waterman for many years. She was also a committed member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mt. Dora, FL, where, among other activities, she volunteered as a Eucharistic minister and performed free monthly blood pressure checks for her fellow parishioners.

Barbara is lovingly remembered by her children Louise P. McEvoy, Helen T. McEvoy, Monica A. Lepp and Brendan J. McEvoy; her granddaughter, Emma Grace Lepp; and her two sisters, Cecilia Shipeky and Anne McQuiggan. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank all of those who sent their love and gave their support to Barbara during her last few months. The funeral service was held on Thursday, May 19, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Mount Dora, FL (6803 Old Highway 441 South, Mount Dora, 32757). The Mass will be followed by the burial and a reception, both to be held on the church premises.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those wishing to contribute to make a generous donation and consider joining their team for PurpleStride to raise money for pancreatic cancer research in their mother’s honor at www.support.pancan.org/goto/BarbaraMcEvoy.
