More than 800 Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC), including several from Massapequa, recently walked in the seventh annual Girls Go the Distance Walkathon as a fundraiser in support of the GSNC’s Healthy Living Initiative programming, which encourages girls to live healthy lifestyles physically, emotionally and socially. The Girl Scouts were joined by their families and community members, who also participated in the event.
This year’s Walkathon was held at Old Bethpage Village Restoration and also featured an activity fair and scavenger hunt. Daisy-to-Ambassadors Girl Scouts, and their families also enjoyed healthy snacks, learned traditional Indian dancing, decorated T-shirts and dabbled in GSNC Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) projects and activities.
“This annual event brings our entire council together and helps us promote healthy living to encourage our girls to live a socially and emotionally healthy lifestyle,” said Donna Ceravolo, executive director of the Girl Scouts of Nassau County. “We are so thankful to everyone who participated in this wonderful event, along with all of our sponsors, volunteers and donors who made the day possible.”
All Walkathon proceeds raised were donated to the Girl Scouts Healthy Living Initiatives programming, which encourages Girl Scouts and their communities to integrate aspects of healthy living into their daily lives.
