Fourth-grade students in Brooke Myers’ class at John H. West Elementary School in the Plainedge School District recently presented their oral and visual reports on a landmark in New York State.
Part of the fourth-grade curriculum, students were asked to visit any landmark within the State, research the historical significance of the site, create a photo essay and present to the class. Students had the entire school year to complete the project.
“It offers a chance for students to see what history is in their own backyards,” Ms. Myers said.
Projects included the Museum of Modern Art, Cold Spring Harbor, Broadway, Fire Island Lighthouse and the 9-11 Memorial.
