After many months of going back to the drawing board, representatives from North Bay Service & Diagnostic Center finally got approval to build a retaining wall in the Village of Roslyn.
The approval came at last Tuesday night’s Board of Trustees meeting. The retaining wall which will surround a parking area at the service center is 124’ by 33’8”. The North Bay Service & Diagnostic Center is located at 1900 Northern Blvd. near the Long Island Railroad overpass.
“You created an adequate buffer zone to maximize the landscape in the area and that’s what we were looking for,” said Mayor John Durkin.
Andrea Tsoukalas, a lawyer with Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo & Terrana LLC, was part of a team that presented a landscape plan to the board last month. At the meeting, she expressed satisfaction that the board granted approval, so construction could begin on the retaining wall.
“They (the board) were concerned with the number of parking spaces at the facility and also the available green space,” said Tsoukalas. “We addressed that concern and now with this approval we can move forward with construction of the concrete retaining wall and we have also added beautiful plantings and estate fencing around the building.”
Tsoukalas said that there was a common misbelief that there were 28 parking spaces at the facility.
“The board was concerned with the number of spaces which was originally believed to be 28 but that was a typo,” Tsoukalas added. “There are only 20 parking spaces at the facility.”
