Floral Park Flag Retirement Ceremonies

AmericanFlagsCommander Matt Cacciatore of the Floral Park American Legion has issued an invitation for local residents to attend the annual Flag Retirement Ceremonies on Friday, June 3, at 7 p.m. at the public works building parking lot near the Floral Park Recreation Building.
Any resident with a flag to be disposed of may deposit it in the drop box in front of the Floral Park American Legion Hall on Elizabeth Street, across from John Lewis Childs School or at 113 South Tyson Ave. A member of the Floral Park American Legion will come to your home or office if you are unable to deliver the flag to either location. To arrange a flag pickup, just leave a message at 516-633-8584.

Floral Park Mayor Tom Tweedy and members of the village board of trustees, local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be attending along with a unit from the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Burning a worn or faded American flag is the only proper way to dispose of Old Glory. This formal ceremony pays due respect to historical traditions that honor the nation’s most important symbol. The Floral Park American Legion was founded in 1919 and eligible veterans are invited to join.
