Center Street School students had the opportunity to explore literature, creativity and art from the perspective of author, illustrator and television show creator Dan Yaccarino. The internationally recognized guest visited the building on May 3 and provided an inspiring presentation.
Yaccarino created the characters from the popular Nick Jr. TV show The Backyardigans and is also the creator and producer of the Parent’s Choice Award-winning animated TV series Oswald and Emmy-winning Willa’s Wild Life. He has written a number of books including Doug Unplugged and Zorgoochi Intergalactic Pizza: Delivery of Doom.
Students enjoyed hearing Yaccarino discuss his work and the subjects of some of his books. He described the processes and the people that are involved in publishing a book and, as a special highlight, drew a picture of one of his characters that will be displayed in the school library.
