Here it is, election time again in Manorhaven, and we have Trustee Jim Avena running for mayor, a job for which he is well-suited. Why do I say that? For those of you who don’t yet know Jim or his many talents useful to a mayor, I’ll list some for you. First, he has served our country well as an Army First Lieutenant, now retired; so he is experienced in being responsible both to and for others. This is an important quality in an elected official. They need to care about their constituents individually—that’s all of us—as if we were family, and be capable of managing our village. Jim has a lot of experience in finance, having served as president of a large investment firm, Cantor Fitzgerald. He also is treasurer of the Senior Citizens Center and the Sands Point Preserve. And he is an officer of the Knights of Columbus. I feel we can safely say he is both an officer and a gentleman, sterling qualities for a mayor. Running with him are two other fine Manorhaven residents: Priscilla Von Rauschlaub and Roy Smitheimer. Priscilla is also presently a trustee. Jim, Priscilla and Roy make an awesome team.
