The Artist’s Studio Art School, a hidden gem on the grounds of Chelsea Mansion and Muttontown Preserve, is offering a tween/teen summer program of art classes for ages 12 to 16.

Session 1, Come Draw With Me, from June 27 to July 1, will focus on beginner to intermediate drawing skills.

Session 2, Sketch and Paint for Fun, from July 11 to 15, has a concentration on drawing and introduction to watercolor painting.

Session 3, Collage and Sculpture Creations, will take place from July 18 to 22. During this session, students will explore two- and three-dimensional construction techniques using found objects, clay and multi-media collage.

Classes are from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. The cost is $200 per week, with materials extra. College portfolio development is also available. Register by June 15 at lampasona.steven@gmail.com or call Ellen at 516-603-1931.

The Artist’s Studio is a boutique-style school that offers classes in painting, mixed media, abstract painting, watercolor and figure drawing year round. The school was established several years ago by internationally recognized oil painter Steve Lampasona, who was the lead instructor at the Nassau County Museum of Art Education Program until Hurricane Sandy forced the program to close. He decided to transfer his skills, knowledge and experience to opening his own art school, fulfilling a long-held dream.

Together with his associate Ellen Hallie Schiff, a well-known abstract painter in her own right, they provide a comfortable, congenial environment to create and learn.

“We provide something unique for those attending or school—no matter what your skill level, we work to personalize our approach to fit the needs of each artist,” said Lampasona. “Our welcoming environment also helps to create an ‘intentional community’ of artists who benefit from the creative energy found in class each week.”

The Artist’s Studio is located on the grounds of Chelsea Mansion at 34 Muttontown Lane, East Norwich.
