Don’t miss the Curtain’s Up production of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. this weekend in the Weber Middle School Auditorium. “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” performances are Friday, June 17 at 7:00 PM and Saturday June 18th at 3:00 PM in the Weber Junior High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 general admission and children under 5 years old are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door. 
Over 40 talented kids will be acting/dancing/singing on the stage, so this is a musical that you and the family won’t want to miss! Directors Allison Friedman and Stacey Medford have been rehearsing with the young actors since January. High School students, Emma Goldman and Valentina Scotto, have been hard at work as the stage managers of this large, multi-faceted musical production. Additionally, many theater and drama students from Weber Middle School have assisted with the sets, costumes, and props.
Based on the smash hit Disney movie and dating back to a late 18th-century classic French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village. When her father is imprisoned in a mysterious castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster, who was long ago trapped in his gruesome form by an enchantress. The only way for the Beast to become human once again is if he learns to love and be loved in return. There is a time limit, too: once a magical rose loses all of its petals, all hope will be lost and he will stay a Beast forever. The Beast’s enchanted household–populated by such beloved characters as Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip–watch anxiously as Belle and the Beast grow to understand and befriend one another. Their feelings grow ever deeper as the clock ticks and petals continue to fall off the enchanted rose–will they confess their love for one another before it is too late?
Curtain’s Up: A Musical Theatre Experience was founded In 2014 by Allison Friedman and Stacey Medford . This unique and popular afterschool program is funded entirely by the non-profit organization HEARTS. Curtain’s up debut stage production, “The Wiz”, performed to sold out audiences and rave reviews in November 2014. Middle School and High School students worked backstage and assisted Allison and Stacey in many aspects of the production. Emily Baxter and Lauren Blank staged a very successful musical workshop production in 2015 that was performed in multiple venues.
